Chicago, IL – Gusty southwest winds of 40-50 mph will impact Illinois residents today, creating hazardous conditions across the region, especially along the I-88 corridor. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory effective from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., urging drivers to secure loose items and use caution when traveling.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will be felt near and north of I-88, where sporadic gusts could reach 50 mph. These winds may make travel on north-south roadways challenging, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to avoid burning yard waste due to the elevated fire danger caused by dry conditions and low humidity levels as low as 25%.

Looking ahead, Illinois will experience unseasonably mild temperatures throughout the week, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s by Thursday. While today’s winds dominate the forecast, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain breezy, but with slightly calmer conditions. Rain is likely by Friday, signaling a potential end to this warm January pattern.
