Illinois – Headlights glow through thick fog across Chicago right now, with visibility dropping to just a quarter mile in spots, creating immediate hazards for drivers on I-90, I-55, and Lake Shore Drive. Conditions can change block by block, and traffic is already slowing in low-visibility zones.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning, with visibility reduced to 0.25 miles or less. Conditions improve later today as winds increase, but that sets up the next round of active weather.

As fog lifts, skies turn partly sunny with highs pushing near 78°F. Breezy conditions develop by afternoon, with south winds increasing to 15–20 mph and gusts near 30 mph. That wind shift signals a stronger system moving in.

By late tonight, showers and thunderstorms become widespread, with rainfall totals between three-quarters and one inch possible. Wet pavement and ponding water could slow travel across Cook County and surrounding suburbs. Keep devices charged and stay weather-aware if storms intensify.

Saturday brings lingering showers early, then gradual clearing with cooler air settling in. Highs drop to the low 50s, a noticeable change from today’s warmth.

Sunday and Monday trend calmer, with sunshine returning and highs near 50 to mid-50s before a warmer push into next week.

More advisories may follow as storms develop. Are you seeing dense fog or improving visibility in your neighborhood?
