Champaign, IL – Icy conditions caused multiple accidents and vehicle slide-offs across Illinois highways Friday, including I-74, I-72, and I-57.
Illinois State Police reported an overturned semi-truck on I-74 westbound near milepost 165. Traffic is limited to the left lane. On I-57 northbound near milepost 245, another semi-truck overturned but traffic remains passable.
According to police, additional accidents and slide-offs occurred throughout the area, likely due to slippery road conditions. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and use caution while driving. Emergency responders are working to clear the scenes.
Troopers emphasized the importance of moving over for emergency vehicles to ensure safety for first responders. Drivers should prepare for continued delays as crews address ongoing hazards.
Officials urge drivers to remain vigilant, check local traffic updates, and allow extra time for travel during hazardous conditions.
