Chicago, IL – Rain and embedded thunderstorms are forecasted to possibly develop across northern Illinois today, with a particular concern for severe weather and a chance of a possible tornado threat before 10 p.m. Areas south of I-80, including Kankakee, Pontiac, and Paxton, are at risk for heavy rainfall and minor flooding throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the most significant threat period for severe storms is from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The potential for damaging winds, quarter-sized hail, and tornadoes is notable, though storm development remains uncertain due to widespread cloud cover earlier in the day.

Today’s high in Chicago is predicted to reach 81°F, with thunderstorms likely between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The chance of precipitation stands at 80%, tapering off slightly in the afternoon but remaining significant.

The forecast for the rest of the week indicates variable weather patterns. Tuesday is expected to be sunny, with temperatures rising to 88°F. Rain will likely return on Wednesday and Thursday, with a 50-55% chance of showers and highs near 89°F. By Friday, the weather will cool slightly to around 83°F, with continued rain chances. The weekend looks brighter, with temperatures in the mid-80s and mostly sunny skies.
