Union, IL – A 78-year-old man was arrested after an alleged altercation in unincorporated Union left another man seriously injured Wednesday evening.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 6:53 p.m. to the intersection of Dunham Road and E Coral Road for a report of an injured person. The Marengo Police Department, Harvard Police Department, and Marengo Fire & Rescue District also responded.
Responding officers reported finding a man who had allegedly been struck with a blunt object during a confrontation between two individuals. Authorities say the victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as Wayne Christiansen, 78, who authorities say is homeless, was arrested on the scene. He faces three Class 3 felony charges: aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery in a public way.
Christiansen is scheduled to appear in court on June 5, 2025.
The charges are allegations, and Christiansen is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
