Illinois–Indiana Weather Alert: Light Snow Now in Chicago with Slippery Roads Early This Morning

Illinois – Light snow drifts across Chicago streets this morning, coating sidewalks and turning bridges slick as temperatures sit in the low 20s.

Visibility drops at times with snow and mist, and untreated roads are already becoming slippery. A light coating of snow is possible, but even minor accumulation can create outsized travel impacts. Drivers along I-90, I-94, and I-55 should expect slower commutes and longer stopping distances.

Meteorologists highlight a limited snow risk, but the real concern is timing. Snow falling during the early hours sticks quickly to cold pavement. Watch for slick overpasses and shaded streets through late morning. Allow extra travel time and keep braking gradual.

As the day progresses, temperatures rise into the low 40s, helping improve road conditions. Snow transitions to scattered rain showers by Thursday, with highs near 44°F. Roads will turn wet instead of icy, but visibility may still dip during passing showers.

By Friday—the first official day of spring—Chicago begins a noticeable warm-up. Highs climb to the low 60s under mostly cloudy skies. This shift signals a broader warming trend expanding east across the Midwest.

The weekend continues the spring feel. Saturday brings highs in the low 60s with partial sunshine. By Sunday, temperatures ease slightly into the mid-50s, but conditions remain quiet.

Still, this time of year brings rapid changes. Any evening moisture followed by cooling could trigger brief slick spots, especially on untreated surfaces.

Five Day Outlook for Chicago, Illinois:
Thursday: High 44°F – Scattered showers
Friday: High 61°F – Milder, mostly cloudy
Saturday: High 62°F – Partly sunny
Sunday: High 56°F – Mostly cloudy
Monday: High 41°F – Cooler again
