KANKAKEE, Ill. – A pre-dawn operation by the Illinois State Police SWAT team, in collaboration with the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and the Kankakee Police Department, led to the apprehension of two suspects on charges related to firearms and narcotics.
On Tuesday, August 22nd, at approximately 6 a.m., law enforcement agents descended upon the residence of Gary Mitchell, 54, and Jane Clark, 51, both residents of Kankakee in the 1900 block of Sandbar Road.
A Warrant search yielded a startling cache of evidence including ten firearms, nearly 4,100 grams of suspected cannabis, a dozen cannabis plants, approximately 6 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and an astounding 1,000+ rounds of ammunition spanning various calibers. In addition to the firearms and drugs, authorities also seized a substantial amount of cash and multiple vehicles.
Mitchell, who possesses a prior felony conviction, faces charges including Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon-No FOID, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Production of Cannabis Plants (5-20 plants), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and No FOID.
Jane Clark, Mitchell’s accomplice, has been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – No FOID, Unlawful Production of Cannabis Plants (5-20 plants), Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Both suspects were promptly transported to the Kankakee County Jail, where they await further legal proceedings.
