Illinois Bus Crash Involving Inmate Transport Sends Several to Hospitals

Hainesville, IL – A McHenry County Sheriff’s inmate transport vehicle, carrying 16 inmates, collided with a sedan Wednesday afternoon in Hainesville. The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 120 and Hainesville Road at 1:00 p.m.

Grayslake Police and Fire responded, finding the westbound transport bus had collided with a northbound sedan making a left turn. The vehicle carried 15 Lake County inmates and one McHenry County inmate. All were housed at the McHenry County Jail.

According to Grayslake Police, 16 inmates and the driver of the sedan were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers from Grayslake, Lake County, and McHenry County responded to ensure the inmates remained in custody.

Two McHenry County Sheriff’s employees on the bus also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Grayslake Police Department is continuing to investigate the accident, and all parties involved are expected to recover.
