Pocatello, ID – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for multiple areas in Idaho, including Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg. The warning takes effect late Sunday night and continues through Monday morning, with wind chills plummeting to as low as 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

According to the National Weather Service, areas impacted include the Upper and Lower Snake River Plains, Blackfoot Mountains, Teton Valley, and Island Park. The bitterly cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities during this time.

The advisory recommends dressing in layers and wearing hats, gloves, and face masks if going outdoors is unavoidable. The cold snap poses additional risks to livestock and unprotected pipes, making preparation essential.

Temperatures are expected to fall rapidly Sunday evening, with the coldest conditions occurring overnight. The extreme cold will persist through the Monday morning commute, making it hazardous for those traveling.
