Wilmington, OH — A significant drop in temperatures will hit the Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky region late Sunday night, prompting an extreme cold watch. The National Weather Service warns that temperatures could plunge to as low as 5 to 10 degrees below zero, with wind chills making it feel 15 to 20 degrees colder.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, the advisory remains in effect until Wednesday morning. The affected areas include portions of southeast Indiana, central and southwest Ohio, and northern Kentucky.
Residents should expect frostbite within minutes if exposed skin is not protected, with hypothermia being a serious risk for prolonged outdoor exposure. Authorities urge people to layer clothing, wear hats, gloves, and face coverings to stay safe in these dangerous conditions.
Property damage is also possible due to the extreme cold. Pipes are at risk of rupturing unless insulated or left dripping to prevent freezing.
Local emergency services are advising residents to limit outdoor activities and ensure that vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, have access to adequate heating. Stay updated on local weather forecasts for further information.
