Homewood Man Shot During Early Morning Vehicle Theft Attempt

Homewood, IL – An attempted vehicle theft early Wednesday morning left a Homewood resident with a gunshot wound. The incident occurred around 3:33 a.m. on the 3000 block of Matthew Avenue, when the victim heard his vehicle start in the driveway.

According to the Homewood Police Department, the victim confronted the suspects as they attempted to steal the vehicle. The suspects fired several shots at the victim before fleeing the scene in another vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound but managed to retreat, while the suspects left the victim’s car behind.

The Homewood Fire Department paramedics treated the victim on-site before transporting him to a local hospital. Authorities have reported that the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homewood Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit at 708-206-3420. Authorities are working to locate the suspects involved in the attempted theft and shooting.
