Newberry, MI – Lane closures began today on I-75 at the M-123 overpass in Mackinac County as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) launched a $2 million project to repair three bridges in the eastern Upper Peninsula. The project is expected to be completed by early November.
Southbound I-75 will have one lane closed at the M-123 overpass, starting October 1. Traffic will be restricted to a 12-foot maximum width, with speed limits reduced to 60 mph. The speed limit will be further reduced to 45 mph in construction zones when workers are present.
According to MDOT, this project also includes repairs to the I-75 bridge over the Carp River and the M-134 bridge over the Pine River. Repairs will address horizontal surface sealing, substructure repairs, and slope paving to improve structural integrity.
This investment is projected to support 24 jobs based on economic modeling. It aims to extend the service life of these bridges, ensuring safer travel for all road users. Traffic delays should be expected while construction is underway.
