Braidwood, IL – As the holiday shopping season kicks off, the Braidwood Police Department has issued essential tips to prevent package theft. With Cyber Monday just days away, residents are urged to safeguard their deliveries against so-called porch pirates.

According to a post by the department, homeowners should consider installing security cameras in areas where packages are typically delivered. Tracking shipments and requiring a signature upon delivery are also highly recommended.

Other suggestions include using a P.O. box or having packages delivered to your workplace. If you’re away, rescheduling delivery times or asking neighbors to retrieve packages can help keep them safe.

For added protection, police advise researching security devices such as locking delivery boxes. In the event of theft, residents are encouraged to report incidents to the department immediately.

With the increase in online shopping, Braidwood authorities emphasize proactive measures to ensure packages reach their recipients safely. “A few precautions can make a big difference,” they said in their post.
