Grand Rapids, MI – Lake-effect snow is set to bring hazardous travel conditions to parts of Michigan starting today and continuing through Saturday morning. Drivers along US 131 and other major roadways are urged to prepare for slippery conditions and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for west-central and southwest Michigan until 1 a.m. Saturday. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with isolated totals of up to 6 inches in areas like Mason and Ottawa counties. Gusty northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph may cause blowing snow, further reducing visibility.

Motorists should plan for slower-than-normal commutes, especially during Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Roads may become icy, particularly in areas experiencing higher snow accumulations. Authorities recommend reducing speeds and avoiding distractions while driving.

Beyond the advisory period, snow showers are likely to taper off by Saturday morning. Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend, with highs in the mid-20s and lows dropping into the teens. Sunday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high of 26°F, offering some relief from snowfall but keeping roads potentially slick.

The hazardous weather outlook indicates another round of lake-effect snow may develop late Sunday into Monday. Residents are advised to stay updated on forecasts and adjust travel plans accordingly.

Stay informed with the latest weather alerts by checking updates from the National Weather Service or local media. Drivers should also keep an emergency kit in their vehicles during winter travel.
