Grand Forks, North Dakota – A fast-moving swath of snow will sweep from northwest to southeast across eastern North Dakota this morning, dropping up to 6 inches in narrow bands and creating hazardous travel along I-29 before early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snowfall will intensify through midmorning and taper off by early afternoon as the system tracks into west central Minnesota. Most areas south of I-94 in southeast North Dakota can expect between 1 and 4 inches, while localized banding could push totals as high as 6 inches in isolated corridors.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially along I-29 from Grand Forks to Wahpeton and along I-94 near Fargo and Valley City. Visibility could fall below one mile during heavier bursts, and snow-covered pavement may lead to reduced speeds and minor spinouts.

Communities farther north, including Devils Lake and areas along U.S. 2, will see lighter totals, but slick spots remain possible through midday. Plow crews will work primary routes, though secondary and rural roads may remain snow packed into the afternoon.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, keep headlights on during falling snow and check North Dakota DOT road reports before heading out. Conditions are expected to improve later this afternoon as snowfall ends, but drifting snow may continue in open areas if winds increase. Additional statements could be issued if heavier snow bands redevelop before noon Saturday.
