Atlanta, GA – Temperatures falling to 36°F will allow widespread frost to form across nearly all of Georgia by 2 a.m. Thursday, creating early morning hazards for commuters and threatening sensitive vegetation statewide.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Thursday, covering north, central, and portions of east and southeast Georgia, including metro Atlanta, Athens, Macon, and Columbus. Clear skies and calm winds will accelerate overnight cooling, leading to frost accumulation on exposed surfaces.

In metro Atlanta, including Marietta, Decatur, and Lawrenceville, patchy frost may develop on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roadways before sunrise. North Georgia cities like Dalton, Ellijay, and Blue Ridge will see the coldest readings, while central Georgia locations such as Macon, Warner Robins, and Dublin will also experience widespread frost by dawn.

The greatest concern is agricultural impact. Early spring crops, backyard gardens, and flowering trees are vulnerable to damage or loss if left unprotected. Residents should cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and avoid early watering, which can worsen frost effects.

Temperatures will rebound quickly after 9 a.m., but additional cold mornings remain possible through the end of the week, and further advisories may be issued.
