Atlanta, GA – A significant winter storm is set to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain across much of Georgia, including the Interstate 20 corridor, starting Friday morning and continuing into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of north-central, northeast, northwest, and west-central Georgia. Areas in the northern mountains could see snow and sleet accumulations ranging from three to six inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Southward, including areas along I-20, a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain is expected, with potential snow accumulations of two to four inches and ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch.
The hazardous conditions are expected to make travel difficult, especially during the Friday morning commute. Bridges and overpasses could become icy, even if surface temperatures hover slightly above freezing.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions. Changes in temperature or the storm’s track could significantly alter precipitation types and impacts.
Stay cautious, plan ahead, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm’s peak.
