Dodge City, KS – Residents across western Kansas woke up to frigid temperatures today, with wind chills dropping to -10°F in some areas. By mid-morning, single-digit wind chills are expected to persist, creating risks for hypothermia if exposed for long periods without proper clothing.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), these dangerously cold conditions will ease slightly by this afternoon as temperatures rise into the 20s and 30s. However, residents should prepare for snow on Thursday evening, with a 20–40% chance of light accumulation across Comanche, Pratt, and Barber counties.

While only a dusting is expected in Dodge City, some areas may see up to one inch of snow, leading to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Drivers should exercise caution, especially on U.S. Route 50 and other major roadways. Breezy conditions with gusts up to 33 mph may further impact visibility Thursday night.

The extended forecast shows a gradual warm-up by the weekend. Thursday’s high will reach 34°F before dropping to 14°F overnight. Sunny skies return Friday, with a high of 35°F. Saturday will see a more noticeable rebound, hitting 43°F with mostly clear skies.

Residents should bundle up today, limit time outdoors, and monitor Thursday’s forecast for potential snow impacts.
