Fort Myers, Florida — A Fort Myers father was arrested after deputies say he allegedly gave a child acid, prompting a hospital visit and a drug trafficking investigation.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday to a grocery store parking lot in Fort Myers after reports of a disoriented child lying in the lot.

The child was transported to a local hospital, where deputies later learned the child’s father had allegedly provided them with acid, investigators said.

During the investigation, other children told deputies their father would pressure them into using narcotics and provide them with drugs, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies later located the suspect at the La Quinta Inn on Marketplace Road in Fort Myers. While searching the hotel room, investigators said they discovered fentanyl, LSD, cocaine, and marijuana.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jeffery Rivenburgh, who was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of child neglect without causing great bodily harm
  • Trafficking fentanyl
  • Trafficking LSD
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of marijuana

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Rivenburgh has been booked more than 30 times previously on various charges, including drug offenses, battery, theft, and burglary.

The investigation remains ongoing, and deputies have not released additional details about the child’s condition.

Cases involving narcotics exposure to minors often draw attention from families, students, and young workers across the community concerned about youth safety and drug access.
