West Bloomfield, Michigan – Police departments across southeast Michigan increased patrols Thursday after reports of a possible active shooter at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield triggered a large law enforcement response and precautionary security measures in neighboring communities.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and multiple agencies responded to the synagogue and began clearing the building after the initial report. Emergency personnel are continuing a systematic search of the facility as authorities work to confirm the nature of the call.

The incident quickly prompted additional safety steps beyond Oakland County. According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, Chief Andre Anderson directed officers to increase patrols at houses of worship and schools throughout the city as a precaution.

Ann Arbor officials emphasized that no known threat exists to the local community, but the extra patrols are meant to provide reassurance and increase visibility while the situation unfolds roughly 45 miles northeast in West Bloomfield.

Temple Israel is located along Walnut Lake Road in a busy suburban section of Metro Detroit. Law enforcement vehicles and emergency crews secured the area while investigators continued checking the building.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid the immediate area near the synagogue as officers complete their sweep. Police say additional updates will be released as more information becomes available.
