Peotone, IL – A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a car has led to road closures near Wilmington-Peotone Road and South Center Road, authorities said. Will County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at 7:12 a.m. on Monday, following a collision between a 2005 Honda and a 2017 Kenworth Tractor/Trailer.
According to initial reports, the female driver of the Honda was traveling south on South Center Road and stopped at the intersection before attempting a left turn. She was struck by the westbound semi on Wilmington-Peotone Road. Emergency crews from Beecher and Manhattan arrived on the scene, extricating the woman from her vehicle. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family.
The following roads remain closed as the investigation continues:
• Eastbound Wilmington-Peotone Rd. at Route 45
• Southbound S. Center Rd. at Barr Road
