Richmond, Va. – Sunshine will give way to increasing clouds Saturday, but Virginia’s biggest concern remains along the coast, where tidal flooding and a high risk of rip currents continue despite Tropical Storm Erin’s departure. Highs will reach the lower 80s inland.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, minor tidal flooding will persist through Saturday along parts of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic shoreline, creating hazards for drivers near low-lying roads and beachgoers heading into the water. The agency warned swimmers to stay out of rough surf as strong rip currents remain a serious risk from Virginia Beach north into the Eastern Shore.

Inland communities such as Richmond, Petersburg, and Farmville will stay mostly dry through the afternoon, but cloud cover will increase by evening. Norfolk, Newport News, and Hampton may see tidal back-up in vulnerable areas around high tide cycles.

Travelers heading to coastal destinations should allow extra time, avoid flooded roadways, and follow local emergency updates. Power outages are not expected, but the threat of flooding and surf-related rescues remains high.

The chance for scattered showers and storms returns Sunday, with more unsettled conditions possible early next week.
