Pendleton, OR – A strong cold front is forecast to sweep across Oregon, bringing high winds to the region starting Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton has issued a Wind Advisory for several areas, including the Kittitas Valley, Eastern Columbia River Gorge, Simcoe Highlands, and the Hanford area of the Washington Lower Columbia Basin.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 45-55 mph in these areas. The advisory is set for Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. According to NWS Pendleton, the strongest winds are anticipated in Ellensburg, Goldendale, and The Dalles, where gusts have a near 100% probability of exceeding 35 mph. Pendleton may also see significant gusts, with a 75% chance of similar conditions.
The winds are expected to cause hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles on highways. Residents should secure loose outdoor objects and be prepared for possible power outages. As the cold front continues eastward, conditions are expected to improve by late Wednesday, with winds gradually subsiding.
