St. Louis, MO – An excessive heat warning and multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact Missouri today. Dangerous heat conditions with a heat index reaching up to 111 degrees are forecasted until Thursday evening.

According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, the first round of thunderstorms is expected this morning with a 50% chance across northeast Missouri and west central Illinois. Additional rounds of storms are likely later this afternoon and through tonight, mainly along the Mississippi River, with a 20-30% chance. These storms may bring damaging winds up to 70 mph, isolated large hail up to quarters, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.

Residents are advised to monitor the forecast closely as conditions can change rapidly. The excessive heat poses significant health risks, and the combination of high humidity and extreme temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses. It is crucial to have multiple ways to receive warnings and to take action within the next hour if conditions worsen.

Wednesday’s forecast indicates continued high temperatures, reaching 97 degrees, with similar conditions expected on Thursday. By Friday, temperatures are predicted to drop slightly to 89 degrees, but the risk of thunderstorms remains.
