Libertyville, IL – A series of car thefts and break-ins on early this morning has prompted the Libertyville Police Department to remind residents about the importance of vehicle security. In the early hours, police responded to multiple reports of individuals entering and rummaging through parked cars. Around 2:20 a.m., officers observed approximately ten male suspects fleeing in waiting vehicles.

According to police reports, officers also responded to the 1100 block of Sussex Lane, where a 2018 Subaru was reported stolen. The vehicle, left unlocked with the key inside, was tracked via its GPS to an area near the Lake Forest Oasis. A Dodge Durango, also stolen from DuPage County, was found nearby. A short time later, another call came from the 1100 block of Garfield Avenue regarding a stolen 2023 Subaru, similarly left unlocked with the key inside.

The Libertyville Police Department emphasizes the need for residents to lock their vehicles, remove any valuables, and ensure that doors to garages and residences are secured, especially at night. These incidents serve as a critical reminder that leaving vehicles unlocked and keys inside significantly increases the risk of theft.

Residents with information or video surveillance that could assist in identifying the suspects are urged to contact the Libertyville Police Department’s Investigation Division at 847-362-8310.
