Wheaton, IL – Residents in Wheaton and parts of neighboring communities may notice mosquito control operations Thursday evening as the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District conducts a district-wide adult mosquito treatment, weather permitting.
According to the City of Wheaton, the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District scheduled the application for Thursday evening, July 16, as part of its integrated mosquito management program. Officials said the timing follows heavy rainfall and warm weather earlier this month, conditions that can increase mosquito populations.
The district began mosquito control efforts earlier in the season by targeting mosquitoes during the larval stage. The upcoming treatment is intended to reduce adult mosquito populations during their peak activity.
The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District operates independently from the City of Wheaton and covers approximately 23 square miles. In addition to most of Wheaton, the service area includes portions of Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, and unincorporated Milton Township.
Residents with questions about the mosquito management program are encouraged to contact the district’s service contractor, Clarke. The contractor also operates a mosquito hotline at 1-800-942-2555 and provides information through its online resident portal.
Health officials recommend residents continue taking steps to reduce mosquito exposure by eliminating standing water around homes, using EPA-registered insect repellents when outdoors, and avoiding outdoor activities during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are typically most active.
The scheduled treatment may be adjusted if weather conditions become unfavorable.
