Dayton, OH – A Montgomery County man has been sentenced for his role in a road rage shooting that occurred earlier this year in Harrison Township, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, to the area of North Dixie Drive and Harding Avenue after receiving a report that shots had been fired during a road rage incident. The report came from an independent witness who was not involved in the confrontation.
Investigators quickly identified the vehicles involved and launched an investigation. Authorities said no one was injured during the incident. Several hours later, deputies located the suspect, who had allegedly changed clothing following the shooting, and took him into custody.
The sheriff’s office identified the defendant as Jamir Smith.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, Smith was sentenced in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to having weapons while under disability, a felony, and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, a misdemeanor.
According to court records cited by the sheriff’s office, Smith was sentenced to 180 days in the Montgomery County Jail and one year in prison. He will receive credit for the 72 days he had already served in jail before sentencing.
Officials said the case highlights the dangers of road rage incidents, which can quickly escalate into acts of violence. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage motorists to avoid confrontations on the road and report aggressive or dangerous driving to law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
