Denver, CO – Dry conditions combined with unseasonably warm temperatures are creating elevated fire risks across Colorado today, particularly near mountainous areas and along the I-25 corridor. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a fire weather warning, urging residents to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines.

According to the NWS Denver/Boulder office, low humidity values, dropping as low as 15%, coupled with wind gusts reaching 20-25 mph, will create prime conditions for fire spread. Winds will be strongest along the Wyoming border and in the higher foothills, making outdoor burning and other fire-prone activities extremely hazardous.

The current forecast for the Denver metro area shows mostly sunny skies with highs reaching 66 degrees, followed by cooler evenings in the mid-30s. Conditions will remain dry through Christmas, with slight chances of rain or snow beginning late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The fire risk today is a critical reminder for residents to secure outdoor equipment, avoid any activity that could cause sparks, and follow all local fire restrictions. Travelers along I-25 and into surrounding mountain towns should remain alert for gusty winds and potential visibility issues.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to drop midweek, with highs near 50 degrees by Christmas Day. However, periods of light snow may develop in higher elevations by Friday, reducing the fire danger later in the week.
