Dover, DE – Authorities are warning Delaware residents of a new wave of phone scams involving spoofed calls impersonating law enforcement, with officials urging the public to remain cautious.

According to a Facebook alert posted Thursday by the Delaware State Police, scammers are manipulating caller ID information to appear as if they are calling from legitimate state or government phone numbers. The deceptive tactic is being used to gain trust and extract personal data from unsuspecting residents.

The agency emphasized that law enforcement will never request payment, traffic fine settlements, or bail money over the phone. These matters are always handled through official court systems, and any requests for electronic payments in relation to court proceedings should be viewed as fraudulent.

“If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Delaware State Police, ask for identification and verify the caller by contacting your local Troop directly,” the post advises. “If you’re ever pressured to share personal information, trust your instincts and hang up immediately.”

The department’s warning was amplified by the Townsend Police Department, which reported that several residents had already received these spoofed calls in recent days. Law enforcement agencies encourage the public to remain alert and share the message to help prevent others from falling victim.

Delaware State Police urge anyone who has been targeted by such scams to report the incident to local authorities and avoid engaging with suspicious callers.
