Deer Causes Motorcycle Crash, Injuring Rider in Cass County, MI

Cassopolis, MI – A motorcycle rider was injured in Cass County after colliding with a deer late Saturday afternoon.

Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported the accident occurred around 4:58 p.m. on Mount Zion Street near Kessington Road, Calvin Township. Charles Allen, 68, of Vandalia, was traveling westbound when his motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway. The impact ejected Allen from the bike.

According to authorities, Allen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. SMCAS Ambulance transported him to Elkhart General Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. His condition has not been publicly disclosed.

The investigation indicated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Penn Fire and SMCAS Ambulance assisted at the scene, ensuring Allen was promptly transported for medical care.

Motorcyclists are urged to stay vigilant for wildlife, especially on rural roads. Deer often pose a significant hazard, particularly during peak travel times in the evening and early morning.
