Davenport, IA – A Davenport man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after being convicted of receiving child pornography. Devin Lee Ortiz, 32, was found with over 550 child sexual abuse images on his phone in July 2020.
Ortiz committed the crimes while residing at a reentry center in Davenport. He was there due to a 2013 conviction for lascivious acts with a child, as cited by Iowa District Court records.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ortiz must also pay $21,000 in restitution. He will face 10 years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case, as part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative to combat child exploitation. Launched in 2006, it supports law enforcement in locating and prosecuting child exploiters.
U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. Ortiz’s sentencing highlights continued efforts to protect children from exploitation across Iowa.
