Dallas, Texas – Outdoor Memorial Day plans across North Texas could be interrupted with little notice as isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms develop through Monday, bringing lightning, gusty winds and pockets of small hail to parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storm chances remain around 20% Sunday and Memorial Day Monday, mainly along and west of Interstate 35 today before shifting east of the corridor Monday afternoon and evening. Severe weather is not expected, but stronger cells may produce brief hail, wind gusts and frequent lightning.

Communities including Graham, Cisco, Sherman and Paris have the greatest chance of seeing storms through Monday evening, while much of the Metroplex may stay dry. Drivers along I-20, I-30 and U.S. 75 could still encounter sudden downpours and slick roads during isolated storm development. Officials urge residents attending outdoor cookouts, lake activities or sporting events to monitor radar updates and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard.

Rain chances increase more significantly by midweek. Dallas-Fort Worth faces an 80% to 90% chance of thunderstorms Wednesday, while Waco, Temple and Killeen could see widespread rain coverage between 70% and 80%. Forecasters say locally heavy rainfall and lightning remain the primary threats, with a low but ongoing flooding risk where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.

Storm chances continue daily into next weekend, though not every community will see rain each day. Additional advisories may be issued later this week if heavier rainfall trends continue.
