Dayton, Ohio – Temperatures will drop below freezing overnight, bringing a widespread cold snap early Monday that could damage plants, impact outdoor plumbing, and create slick spots during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday across much of western and central Ohio, along with parts of eastern Indiana. A Frost Advisory remains in place through 9 a.m. Sunday morning, with temperatures in the mid-30s already producing frost.
Cities including Dayton, Columbus, Springfield, Hamilton, and Richmond will see lows between 30 and 32 degrees by sunrise Monday. Rural areas may dip slightly colder. Major travel routes such as I-70, I-75, I-71, and I-675 could develop patchy frost on bridges and overpasses before 9 a.m., increasing the risk of slick driving conditions.
The freeze poses a threat to early-season crops, gardens, and exposed plumbing. Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and insulate or disconnect outdoor hoses. Drivers heading out early Monday should use caution on elevated surfaces where temperatures drop fastest.
Conditions will improve after 10 a.m. Monday as temperatures rise above freezing. Additional alerts may be issued if similar cold conditions continue into the week.
