Indianapolis, Indiana – Temperatures will drop to near freezing overnight, bringing a cold snap by early Monday that could damage plants, outdoor plumbing, and create patchy frost for the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday across central, north central, and west central Indiana. A Frost Advisory remains in place through 9 a.m. Sunday morning, with temperatures already near 34 degrees producing widespread frost.
Cities including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, Anderson, Kokomo, and Shelbyville are expected to fall to around 31 degrees by sunrise Monday. Rural areas could briefly dip lower. Key travel corridors such as I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74 may see frost developing on bridges and overpasses before 8 a.m., leading to isolated slick spots during peak travel.
The freeze could harm early-season crops, gardens, and flowering trees. Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and protect exposed pipes and hoses. Drivers heading out early should slow down on elevated roadways where surfaces cool fastest.
Temperatures are expected to climb above freezing after 9 a.m. Monday. Additional cold alerts may be issued if similar overnight conditions persist into midweek.
