Cleveland-Area Tornadoes: National Weather Service Confirms 5 Tornadoes on August 6

Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland office has confirmed that five tornadoes struck Northeast Ohio on August 6, 2024. The tornadoes impacted areas across Northeast Lorain and Northwest Cuyahoga Counties, including Bay Village, Westlake, and Avon-Rocky River.

According to the NWS, video and radar evidence prompted adjustments to the original tornado track and led to the identification of an additional northwest to southeast tornado path. The Bay Village tornado, an EF-1, lasted two minutes with peak winds of 110 mph, a 1.75-mile path length, and a width of 250 yards. Another EF-1 tornado in Avon-Rocky River was on the ground for 15 minutes, spanning 11.93 miles with 110 mph winds.

The storms caused significant damage, including uprooted trees and structural damage, but fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported. The NWS continues to assess the situation and advises residents to remain vigilant as cleanup efforts progress.
