Chicago, Illinois – While heavy rainfall drenched much of northern Illinois this week, the Chicago metro area saw relatively lighter totals, with many surrounding towns soaking up over 3 inches of rain by Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the highest three-day total came from 4 miles northeast of Durand, which recorded 3.22 inches of rain. Nearby communities like St. Anne (2.86″) and Chebanse (2.95″) also reported significant rainfall, contributing to saturated fields and standing water on rural roads. In contrast, O’Hare Airport recorded just 0.63″, with Midway slightly higher at 0.86″.

Communities across Iroquois and Kankakee counties, as well as parts of northwest Indiana, reported widespread totals above 2.5 inches, including Crescent City, De Motte, and Valparaiso. Road spray, reduced visibility, and ponding on highways like I-57 and U.S. Route 24 made travel hazardous at times.

Residents in low-lying areas are urged to monitor drainage and avoid walking or driving through water-covered roads. Although the rain has tapered off, localized flooding remains possible through Thursday as runoff drains into creeks and rivers.

Another round of storms is possible later this weekend, and the National Weather Service may issue additional advisories as conditions develop.
