Chicago Pilot, 83, Survives Indiana Cornfield Plane Crash Near State Park

Chicago, IL – An 83-year-old Chicago pilot survived a plane crash in a cornfield near Warrior Run State Park in Indiana on Wednesday. The pilot encountered engine trouble during a routine flight from Chicago to Kentucky.

According to the Parke County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 12:20 p.m. on County Road 200 East, southwest of the state park. The pilot’s Cessna 170A overturned in the cornfield after an emergency landing, leaving him with only minor scrapes on his arm.

Local deputies and Marshall Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, treating the pilot at the site. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been notified and will investigate the crash.

The pilot reported hearing his engine “sputtering” before attempting the landing. The 83-year-old from Illinois is expected to recover fully, and no further injuries were reported. The investigation into the crash continues.
