Kenosha, WI – A missing scuba diver was recovered Tuesday after diving near the S.S. Wisconsin shipwreck in Lake Michigan. Patrick Kelly, 72, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, was located 125 feet below the surface near Pleasant Prairie.

The United States Coast Guard relayed a distress call from Kelly’s vessel on Monday, after he failed to resurface. Kelly’s wife, aboard their boat, sent the call when Kelly missed his scheduled return time. Local rescue agencies responded, but recovery efforts were postponed due to poor water conditions.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, the search resumed on Wednesday. Using sonar and remotely operated vehicles, Kelly’s body was found around 10:15 a.m. and brought to the surface.

Multiple agencies assisted in the recovery, including units from Wisconsin and Illinois. The Sheriff’s Department expressed condolences to Kelly’s family and thanked all who helped.

The Kenosha Human Development Services Crisis Line is available 24/7 for those in need at 262-657-7188.
