Cedar Lake, IN – A Chicago Heights man was arrested Tuesday after leading Cedar Lake police on a high-speed chase while riding an off-road electric bike. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Preston Garrett, allegedly fled police on Morse Street after being observed doing a wheelie and running a stop sign.
According to police, Garrett continued to evade officers through private property near E. Lake Shore Drive, eventually losing power behind Faith Church on W. 133rd Ave. Officer Ben King apprehended Garrett, who now faces felony fleeing and traffic violation charges.
Deputy Chief Carl Brittingham, injured while trying to detain Garrett, noted the bike’s speed—capable of reaching 46 MPH—posed a significant danger. He emphasized the seriousness of Garrett’s actions, which could have led to injuries or fatalities.
Garrett is currently being held in the Lake County Jail. Authorities thanked the Cedar Lake Fire Department and nearby police for their assistance in the chase.
