Indiana Plane Crash in Henry County Kills Pilot, Middletown Man

Henry County, IN – A Middletown man died in a fatal plane crash near Sulphur Springs on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at a private airfield near U.S. 36 and County Road 200 W.

Henry County Dispatch received a 911 call at around 2 p.m. about a small aircraft crash. First responders, including troopers from the Pendleton District, arrived to find a blue 1976 Stewart Bowers Flybaby aircraft crashed into a field near the runway.

Firefighters located the pilot, David Michael Province, 82, and attempted to render aid. According to the Henry County Coroner, Province was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the aircraft, and no other injuries were reported.

Sergeant Brian Thomas, who led the preliminary investigation, stated the crash likely occurred during takeoff. The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct a full investigation.

Indiana State Police, alongside Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Castle EMS, and local fire departments, assisted with the response.
