Coatesville, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing their call for information in a decades-old homicide, offering a $5,000 reward for tips that help solve the 1999 killing of Carnell “Poppy” Hooper in Chester County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop J – Embreeville Criminal Investigation Unit, the case dates back to Saturday, September 28, 1999, when an unknown Black male allegedly entered Hooper’s residence on the 100 block of Ash Street around 6:30 a.m. Investigators say Hooper was shot multiple times with a .38 caliber handgun and died at the scene.
Authorities said neighbors, awakened by the sound of gunfire, reported seeing a suspect fleeing the residence shortly after the shooting. Despite initial leads, the case has remained unsolved for more than two decades.
Now, troopers are asking the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the suspect or provide new direction in the investigation. Officials emphasize that even small details could be critical in advancing the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact PSP Embreeville at 610-486-6280 or submit tips anonymously through PSP Tips. All tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest or resolution of the case.
State police noted that all unsolved cases remain active and are periodically reviewed as new technology and information become available.
