Champaign, IL – An 18-year-old Champaign man has died after a shooting on the 1900 block of Cynthia Drive. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when officers responded to a call at 3:59 p.m.
Upon arrival, police and Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputies found the man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds in a parking lot. Officers provided medical aid before the victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to the Champaign Police Department, the victim and companions were sitting in a vehicle when an unknown suspect opened fire. The victim’s companions fled the scene after the shooting. The suspect remains unidentified.
Authorities are canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. Residents and businesses nearby are urged to contact police if they have exterior camera footage.
