Fort Worth, TX – Heavy rain and localized flash flooding remain a concern across parts of Central Texas Tuesday as a Flood Watch stays in effect through the evening, while additional showers and thunderstorms continue across North and Central Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for portions of Central Texas and the Brazos Valley, including areas near Waco and Killeen. Forecasters say repeated rounds of heavy rainfall could produce 1 to 3 inches of rain, with isolated totals of 4 to 5 inches possible in the watch area.
The greatest concern is flooding of low-lying roads, poor drainage areas, and locations that receive multiple rounds of heavy rain. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and use extra caution near creeks and low-water crossings.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across much of North and Central Texas through Tuesday and into Wednesday before rain chances gradually decrease later in the week. While widespread severe weather is not expected, thunderstorms will be capable of producing locally heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and brief gusty winds.
By Thursday and into the weekend, drier weather is expected to return as temperatures climb back to near or above seasonal averages. High temperatures are forecast to reach the lower to middle 90s, with heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees possible by the weekend, especially across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding communities.
Residents should continue monitoring the latest forecasts, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions where heavy rain develops.
