Cassopolis, MI – A 26-year-old man from Dowagiac was injured in a single-vehicle crash on M51 Highway in Pokagon Township on Monday afternoon. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident around 12:09 p.m. at the intersection of M51 and Thompson Road.
According to Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, the driver, identified as Joshua Jessup, lost control of his vehicle while traveling northbound on M51. The car veered across the center line and ended up in a cornfield. Jessup, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to Niles Lakeland Hospital by SMCAS Ambulance with injuries.
The investigation indicates that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. However, the accident remains under investigation.
