Plymouth, IN – A Plymouth man was critically injured in a motorcycle crash Monday afternoon when his bike collided with a minivan at the intersection of Miami Trail and State Road 106.

The Indiana State Police reported that the accident occurred around 3 p.m. when a 36-year-old South Bend woman allegedly ran a stop sign while driving a Honda minivan southbound on Miami Trail. The minivan struck the side of the motorcycle, operated by the 61-year-old Plymouth man, who was traveling westbound.

The force of the collision threw the motorcyclist from his bike. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. The man was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for emergency treatment.

The driver of the minivan was also injured, though her injuries were described as non-life-threatening. She was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.

The Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate the crash, with preliminary findings indicating that failure to stop at the intersection may have been a significant factor.
