Winfield, IN – An emergency bridge closure on East 121st Avenue between Decatur Street and Iowa Street has been announced by the Lake County Highway Department. This closure is expected to significantly impact local traffic, particularly around the Taft Middle School area, where increased congestion has already been noted due to a nearby road closure on 117th Avenue associated with the 109th Avenue construction at Green Place.
The bridge, located over Niles Ditch in the Crown Point and Winfield area, is being closed immediately for urgent structural repairs. Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes to navigate around the closure. Eastbound drivers should take Iowa Street north to 113th Avenue, then proceed to Decatur Street before returning to 121st Avenue. Westbound drivers are encouraged to detour via Decatur Street north to 117th Avenue, then use Iowa Street south to reconnect with 121st Avenue.
According to the Lake County Highway Department, efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience, and detour signs will be installed to guide drivers. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and allow extra travel time while the repairs are underway.
