Albany, N.Y. – Rounds of slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring a risk of flash flooding to much of upstate New York late tonight into Sunday morning, particularly across the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and Adirondacks.

According to the National Weather Service Albany, repeated bands of heavy rainfall will move through the region beginning late Saturday and continuing into early Sunday. Areas from Albany to Utica, Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and surrounding counties are most at risk, especially where storms track over the same locations. High rainfall rates could quickly overwhelm drainage in urban centers and low-lying roads.

Residents in Schenectady, Amsterdam, Johnstown, and northern Hudson Valley communities should remain alert for sudden water rises on creeks, underpasses, and poor-drainage streets. While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flash flooding can escalate without warning—drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through standing water. Charge mobile devices and have an emergency plan if travel is unavoidable.

This marks the first significant summer rainfall for much of the region in July, following a drier than average start to the month. Showers should taper by midday Sunday, but further advisories or warnings could be issued if rainfall intensifies overnight.
