Elko, Nevada – Tender plants and early gardens across parts of northern Nevada and inland Northern California could be at risk as frost advisories remain in effect this weekend, with temperatures dropping near or below freezing in several high valley communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Elko, a Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight to 8 a.m. PDT Sunday for northern Lander and Eureka counties, including Battle Mountain, Crescent Valley, and Emigrant Pass. Overnight lows may dip to 32°F, prompting warnings for residents to cover or bring in sensitive plants.

Meanwhile, the Eureka office has extended frost advisories for Saturday morning across parts of Southern Trinity, Northeastern Mendocino, and Northern Lake Counties, including Hayfork, Covelo, and areas near the Gravelly Valley Airport. These locations can expect early morning temperatures between 32–33°F through 8 a.m. Saturday.

While June frost isn’t unheard of at higher elevations, this event arrives just days before peak summer. Gardeners are urged to cover crops, bring potted plants indoors, and consider drip irrigation to reduce frost risk.

Cool overnight lows may continue in sheltered valleys through early next week, though no additional advisories have been issued yet.
