Los Angeles, California – Drivers along Interstate 5 and Highway 14 could face dangerous crosswinds by late Wednesday evening as 65 mph gusts slam mountain passes and coastal ridges overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a High Wind Warning takes effect at 4 p.m. Wednesday for the Interstate 5 Corridor, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Ventura County mountains, lasting until 7 a.m. Thursday. Gusts in these areas could reach 65 mph, especially near Tejon Pass, Gorman and Pyramid Lake. A separate warning begins at 9 p.m. Wednesday for the western and eastern San Gabriel Mountains, including Wrightwood, Acton, Mount Baldy and along the Angeles Crest Highway, continuing until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Along the Malibu Coast and through the Santa Monica Mountains, north winds strengthen between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday, with gusts up to 60 mph possible in Pacific Palisades, Topanga and Malibu.

These winds could snap tree limbs, down power lines and trigger scattered outages. High-profile vehicles on I-5, Highway 14 and canyon roads face the greatest risk of being blown off course. Residents in wind-prone foothill neighborhoods should secure outdoor furniture and avoid parking beneath large trees.

Stay indoors during peak winds, remain in lower levels of your home and avoid windows. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts trend higher before daybreak Thursday.
