Hanford, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to bring up to six feet of snow and dangerous winds to the Sierra Nevada, prompting a Winter Storm Warning through 10 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford, the storm will primarily impact areas above 7,000 feet, including Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Park, and Huntington Lake. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.

The heaviest snowfall is expected from Wednesday night through Friday, with hazardous travel conditions likely. Road closures, chain controls, and whiteout conditions are possible in higher elevations. Commuters should expect significant delays, particularly on Thursday morning and evening.

Officials urge travelers to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water. Up-to-date road conditions can be checked by calling 511.

Residents and visitors should prepare for extreme winter conditions and avoid unnecessary travel.
